Advantages
Disadvantages
Produce food crops
Only 10% of world’s land is arable
Produce raw material for products
Pesticides can diminish nutrients in soil
Some crops can be used as fuel
Some common pesticides can harm food
Crop rotations provide improved water quality
Organic agriculture costs a lot to farm
Food produced on pastures is healthy and can help body fight diseases
Famine causes decrease in the amount of crops produced

1) What happened to prices when more cotton is produced than can be sold?

When there is too much surplus, prices fall because the farmers need to get rid of all the extra cotton.

What is sharecropping and what impact did it have on African Americans?

Sharecropping is where a plantation owner allows a tenant, usually an African American, to farm on the land. The tenant would only get a portion of the money from the crops, and would not be able to pay the tabs produced from planting the crops. This affected African Americans harshly because it was like slavery since the tenant would be in debt and not allowed to stop sharecropping.
